Taraji P. Henson for the Met Gala
Post-Imperial x Monse
I designed and oversaw the creative direction in collaboration with fashion brand Monse for both of Taraji P. Henson’s looks for the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style exhibition for the Met Gala.

The Divine Dandy
The Divine Dandy look draws from a multitude of inspirations within the Black Diaspora. From the paintings of Barkley L. Hendricks to Cab Calloway’s famous white tuxedo. It also pays homage to Josephine Baker’s femininity as well as the Iyabos of Yoruba culture, women of spiritual devotion who don white to symbolize purity before Olodumare, the supreme deity.

The Baye Dandy
The Baye Dandy stands as a captivating embodiment of the rich, interwoven narratives that shape the Black diaspora, challenging what is considered a Black Dandy. This archetype draws deeply from cultural influences, notably the flamboyant Sapeurs of Congo and the dignified Oba, traditional rulers of the Yoruba Kingdom in Nigeria. Each element of this character is steeped in history, yet vibrant with contemporary creativity.
